Bob’s Banana Bread started as a summer experiment and turned into a weekly late-night food pop-up on campus. Every Wednesday, we've baked 8–14 loaves of assorted banana bread flavors and sold them to hungry Rice students, often selling out.
In addition to weekly pop-ups, we ran a stall at the large student market held each semester. Our line frequently clogged the venue and sold out quickly, becoming one of the more recognizable food booths at the event. We've also collaborated with Lovett Theater to sell banana bread as part of show concessions, and have also partnered with breast cancer awareness initiatives, baking limited-run pink banana breads and donating the proceeds.
I am responsible for all branding and social media marketing, from visual identity to promotion and online presence. My co-founder handles finances, and we both share baking, setup, and sales. We were featured in the student newspaper and included in the 2025–2026 Rice student handbook.
The name confuses a lot of people. Neither of us is named Bob, and we do not know a Bob. Instead, Bob is a red hammer we adopted as our mascot because it has absolutely nothing to do with banana bread. That disconnect made people curious, and it worked. Bob is also very useful, as he helps us bake by crushing the walnuts. Customers like to take selfies with him after buying a slice.
